what is the saddest song that brings tears to your eyes just about every time you hear it?
mine is harry chapin's cats in the cradle

so the bible says not to eat blood, so the witnesses refuse blood transfusions.
the bible also says not to eat pork.
so why do witnesses eat pork?
After reading a bit about the pagan origins of christianity I believe the blood reference could be to distance the christians from Mithraism, Attis, Adonysus & Horus worship which were forbears of christian doctrine. In all those religions blood (bull and lamb) was used in certain ceremonial rites including baptism and also in eating the flesh and blood of the animal in praise of that god. Interestingly the christians kept a lot of the essence of the pagan rites - 'washed in the blood of the lamb' and the eucharist or last supper where bread substitutes flesh and wine blood in praise of jesus.
anyone from the cambridgeshire congregations of st ives, st neots or huntingdon?
or any rotherham congregations?
Hi PaulJ!
Welcome to the board
I've never been in the congs you mentioned. I've been in Leeds & Harrogate congs but my local assemblies were at the East Pennines assembly hall at Hellaby near Rotherham. Don't know if you ever went there maybe?
first of all, i want to apologize for all the mistakes i will probably make, i m not very good at english, it s very hard for me to think in another language different than my native tongue (spanish, of course!!)..
i ve been lurking through this forum for a long time but i didn t dare write here because of my lack of knowledge of the language but i changed my mind.
i think i can give a different point of view from other members of usa of uk, it seems that most of the members are from theses countries.
Welcome to JWD Benito!
Thanks for posting your story, I really enjoyed reading it.
my sister in law was going to have her electricity shut off and she brought her notice to catholic charities and they paid it for her.
makes me wonder would the wts do the same?
are they known to do anything charitable besides spreading the good news?
I think the 2 expressions that sum up the WTS view of charity are -
God helps those who help themselves
Charity begins at home (Columbia Heights, Brooklyn)
when you visit jw family, do you get bombarded by "updates" of what others are doing as jw's?.
i do and it takes everything i have to say what's really on my mind.... my dad just got back from a vacation visiting family.
i ask how so-and-so is doing ... "oh, they're great.
I used to hear it said that 'worldly people have nothing to talk about, but we JW's have lots to talk about'
When you listen to their conversations though all it amounts to is gossip - who got married, divorced, DF'd, had a kid, who wore what outfit at the assembly, who got insulted or snubbed at the last meeting etc etc etc
They live their whole lives making small talk because they have such dull, unfulfilling lives with no outside interests or pastimes. They don't even talk about so called 'spiritual' things from the bible or watchtower, like they are told from the platform, cos even they figure that stuffs boring as hell.
25 years total .
15 years baptized .
also, does the resentment for jw's grow in a linear or a exponential manner with time spent as a jw?.
Birth - 26 y.o.
12 years baptized.
I do think the number of years you are in the org parallels the resentment felt. It's kinda like investing in a Robert Maxwell pension fund only to find out you got screwed over.
we went through amarillo a few years ago on our way to colorado, and i absolutely loved the area, and i have wanted to go back ever since.
just outside of town heading north towards dalhart the lanscape starts to take on the feel of the old west.
there are canyons, mesas, and buttes.
When the day is dawning on a Texas Sunday morning
how I long to be there
with Marie who's waiting for me there
every lonely city where I hang my hat
ain't as half as pretty as where my baby's at
Is this the way to Amarillo
every night I've been hugging my pillow
dreaming dreams of Amarilloand sweet Marie who waits for me
show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weeping like a willow
crying over Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me
Sha la la lala lalala Sha la la lala lalala
Sha la la lala lalala and Marie who waits for me
There's a church bell ringing
hear the song of joy that it's singing
for the sweet Mariaand the guy who's coming to see her
just beyong the highway, there's an open plain
and it keeps me going through the wind and rain
Is this the way to Amarillo
every night I've been hugging my pillow
dreaming dreams of Amarilloand sweet Marie who waits for me
show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weeping like a willow
crying over Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me
Sha la la lala lalala Sha la la lala lalala
Sha la la lala lalala and Marie who waits for me
Sorry, had to post it before anyone else did
vital clues over 'piano man' .
a helpline set up to identify a mystery man who stunned carers by giving a virtuoso piano performance has been inundated with calls, his social worker said today.
the man has not uttered a word since police picked him up walking aimlessly on the streets of sheerness, kent, dressed in a dripping wet suit and tie.
Yeah I saw this on the news today. My first thought, and it sounds a bit harsh, was that it was an elaborate media trick by someone to gain notariety. The fact the labels were cut out of his clothes seemed a bit fishy to me. I dunno though
He looks like he could be Thom Yorkes brother maybe.
